Seasons Greetings

With 2014 drawing to a close and the holiday season nearly upon us, it is time to celebrate with family, friends and lots of food. The ABC board would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and hopes to see you soon at the many upcoming activities in the new year!

We'd also like to say a huge thank you to the former board Hana,Teresa, Katarina, Aster, Pascale, Theres,
Victor, Benjamin and Ashish for their contribution and we wish you luck in your future endeavors.

And now to introduce the newly elected board for 2015.

**
Helen Backlund- Chairperson
------------------------------------------------------------

Helen lives and works in Lund and was a part of establishing ABC in the late 90’s. She also initiated and finalized ABC's building of Oxford High School in Uganda that is now self-sustainable. Helen has a Bachelor in Peace & Conflict studies from Malmö University and recently completed a Masters of International Development and Management at Lund University. She has also done internships at the UN, Red Cross and worked for various NGOs in Kenya and Tanzania. She is passionate about gender equality, democratic processes and peace promotion.

Fun Fact: Helen is currently in Kenya

** Julia Linder- Vice Chairperson
------------------------------------------------------------

Julia has been engaged in ABC since 2010, both as a Board member and an employee. During 2011-2012 Julia was the secretary and vice chairperson of the Board. She has been employed as Project Leader in urban gardening project Ett Grönare Lund since 2012. Julia has also studied psychology, project leading and development studies at Lund University.She is very motivated to work on improving working and meeting structures, democratic processes and transparency within the Board and in the organizational as a whole.

Fun Fact: Julia can ride a unicycle

Lina Sundberg- Secretary
------------------------------------------------------------

Lina is currently working as an enroller/värvare in Malmö and Lund = doing  her best to make people realize they care  about alternative development. Her three favorite things in life are laughing,  coffee and the people she cares about.She is usually knitting or wishing that  she was. Lina has a bachelor in gender studies and completed an internship  at HIMAD in India through ABC. She is excited for the year to come and honored to  be a part of the board.

Fun Fact: To feel balanced Lina needs a mix of nature and kitsch.

** Benjamin Sjogren- Treasurer
Benjamin has been on the board since 2013 and has been involved in ABC before that. He is also the current economy assistant for ABC. He has a bachelor degree in development studies where he completed his thesis in Columbia on displaced people due to civil conflict. He is also planning to study medicine in the upcoming semester.

** Fun Fact: Benjamin is currently attempting to solve the Rubix cube in under 60 seconds

** Ashish Maharjan- Ordinary Member (development group)
------------------------------------------------------------
Ashish is from Nepal, though he has spent the past 14 years living and working in Switzerland, USA, India, Nepal and now Sweden. Before coming here he was working as an operations manager for a hospitality management college in Nepal. There his projects included food hygiene courses to hotels and restaurants in Nepal, street cleaning initiatives and even the production of a documentary about Food Safety in the country. He arrived in Sweden in November 2012 and was active with ABC for Ett Grönare Lund and GreenTalk. He has been on the board since 2013 and is currently coordinating the Yuwalaya group.
Fun Fact: Ashish practices Capoeira and plans to compete in the European Capoeira championship.

Liz Kyrklund- Development Group Co-ordinator
------------------------------------------------------------

Liz is from Halmstad and moved to Malmö in 2009 to study Human Rights. She is now studying at Lund University to become a trained social worker. She has been involved in ABC since 2011 when she volunteered as an intern through HIMAD and has since hosted HIMAD's leaders here this Autumn. Liz has also been previously engaged in the UN Association in Halmstad and Malmö as part of their boards and is now working with the NGO IM (Individuell Människohjälp). She is honoured to be a ordinary member the ABC board, and the coordinator of the Development Group.

Fun Fact: Liz loves yoga, cats (who doesn't?) and all sorts of vegan/vegetarian food

Julian Wortmann- Activity Group Co-ordinator
------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------

Julian is originally from Germany and has been living in Lund since the beginning of this semester where he been studying a Master in Human Ecology. He also has a Bachelor in Evironmental Studies. Since arriving here he has been very engaged in ABC through the activity group and Ett Gronare Lund. Julian also has a passion for Fairtrade issues. He has completed internships through several NGOs in Germany in addition to volunteering for a year in Mexico where he worked to strengthen indigenous people's rights.

Fun Fact: Julian has the vision to establish a do-it-yourself bike workshop but right now he's struggling to keep his own bike in good condition
Maja Karlsson- HR and Development Group

Maja is based in Lund where she found her interest for international development. She volunteered through ABC at HIMAD and Christ University in Spring 2013. Maja is furthering her studies with a Master in Gender Studies at Lund University. Her personal commitment to ABC’s partner organization HIMAD, especially the women’s cooperative Kimat is also something she happily brings to the board. Maja is passionate about ABC as a whole including the local efforts and activities.

Fun fact: Maja has a passion for knitting and has just learnt how to cable knit.

Hanna Burckhardt- Membership Officer, Co-Activity Group Co-ordinator
------------------------------------------------------------

Hanna is from Germany and now lives in Lund to study Master in Human Ecology at Lund University.Hanna has been very engaged in ABC’s activity group, Ett Grönare Lund and Vi odlar! She also has a bachelor in Sociology & International Business Communication. Before her Master studies Hanna did an internship in Germany working with educational sustainability projects targeting schools. Hanna is also involved in Hållbart Universitet and is happy to assist in collaboration with them. She is interested in overall Board responsibility and in particular, membership issues.

Fun Fact: Hana is excited about upcycling and licorice

** Jamie Bowd- Communications Officer
------------------------------------------------------------

Jamie is from Australia and is currently based in Landskrona. She has a bachelor degree in Journalism and International Relations. Since arriving in Sweden in the Summer she has been involved in ABC's Vi Odlar project, the Activity group, multiple events and more recently the Yuwalaya project. She is currently attempting to learn Swedish and has an immense passion for international politics, culture and communications in general.  Jamie is excited to be involved in the board and feels she can learn a lot from the group.
Fun Fact: Jamie loves caramel,dance and has seen seven Cirque du Soleil shows

** Adventino Banjwa- Development Group
------------------------------------------------------------

Adventino is from Uganda and has lived in Sweden since the beginning of the Autumn semester. He is now studying a Master of Science in Development Studies in Lund having also completed a Bachelor of Development Studies. He has been very engaged in ABC and contributed at our Vision Meeting and other regular activities. Adventino has also worked for a Christian NGO in Uganda with focus on monitoring social mobilization and advocacy. He is enthusiastic to be on the board and hopes it will be a productive year.

Fun Fact: Adventino was once convinced by a friend to make a rap video to the tune of "My Leather so Soft" and it makes him laugh every time he sees it.

* Friday, 30th January, 12:00 - 16:00: Hälsningsgillet (Association Fair in Swedish) at AF Borgen

** Yuwalaya Project Grant
------------------------------------------------------------
After 6 years of bilateral cooperation with Youth Action Nepal, ABC's Yuwalaya project has successfully received a grant from Forum Syd to implement a Youth Resource Center in Kathmandu. The activities will start during the Spring term of 2015 and include individual mentoring, workshops and healthcare with a focus on the engagement and empowerment of the Nepalese youth. The Yuwalaya project would like to send out a huge thank you to everyone who has helped us throughout the years!
